FAQ

Class sizes are small! Max of 10 students.

Lots of times offered, after school hours and on weekends.  Summer hours will also be offered during the day.

We encourage your daughter to attend 1-2x weekly if in another sport, up to 4x if Phoenix will be their main source of fitness, for best results.

Class passes are purchased monthly - no contracts, no long term commitments.  We know seasons change, needs change, and schedules get crazy.  We try our best to be amenable to all of that.

Each class is 60 minutes - 10 minute warm up, followed by 50 minutes of strength and conditioning.

*Coming soon* strength and stretch sessions which will be a 50/50 split of strength training and yoga designed for young athletes

About Phoenix Varsity Club

IMG_1690

When I was in school, I WAS NOT a fit kid.  I didn’t make the middle school basketball team, and that experience led me to believe I wasn’t an athlete in any capacity, and therefore shouldn’t even TRY to become one.  I shied away from challenges in gym class out of fear of embarrassment or judgement.  I turned to food for comfort, and created an unhealthy relationship with my body, food, and fitness.

As a mom, I don’t want this experience for my daughter.  I want her to understand her power, and find JOY in challenging herself, failing, and trying new things.  I want her to be a part of something fun, just as much as I want her to excel at her chosen sport of gymnastics, and learn to love the JOURNEY of fitness rather than the outcome.

I saw a gap in the community for middle and high school aged girls when it came to this.  To increase my daughter’s gymnastics skills, even after seeking out private lessons, it became clear that she needed to develop strength and power, not specific to gymnastics.  Things that I LOVE to do as a weight lifter, things I teach my clients as a personal trainer, but NONE of which she is learning in school gym class or her gymnastics practices.

Rather than send her to a male-athlete-focused program at another local gym, I got together with some other parents who found themselves in similar situations.  Wanting their girls to succeed, but not knowing how to help them.  Watching them lose their confidence in themselves, juggling those adolescent feelings of overwhelm, body image issues, and self doubt.  We decided it was time to take action.

Our methodology is foundational strength, speed and agility, stability and power.  Our goal is to create well-rounded athletes that train hard with less injury and see progress each season.  But FUN is also a main priority for our girls.  Phoenix is NOT a place to be judged, its a place to try new, hard things, and get BETTER.  In classes we will talk about food as fuel, overcoming self doubt, and dealing with stress in healthy ways.  We will talk about the fact that ALL women can be athletes.  ALL women can be powerful.  ALL women are worthy of taking care of themselves, mentally and physically.  These are VITAL conversations we need to be having with our girls, both in and out of the gym.

Classes will run on a weekly cycle. While we will identify benchmarks for training, we will not make that a focus or assessment (we all remember those awful fitness tests in gym class, THIS is not that).  We’ll make sure to communicate with you how they are tracking toward their goals and the progress they are making, every step of the way.  Because class sizes are small (less than 10 girls per class) we will give your girl lots of personal attention at each class.  It is my deep desire for Phoenix to be an outlet for them with trusted coaches and mentors they can count on.
